The desperation on the part of the UK Government is palpable. They know that the armada of dinghies carrying illegal migrants across the Channel is a bad look. The claims to “Smash the gangs” have proven empty, the “One in One Out” policy is a joke, so what ELSE could they do?

France has agreed to start intercepting small boats in the Channel. The change in policy comes after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote to President Emmanuel Macron urging him to back the plan and saying we currently “have no effective deterrent” in the Channel, according to a report in Le Monde, external.
French security forces will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they’ve picked up their passengers, the maritime police force has confirmed to the BBC.

French police have rarely intervened to stop the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered too great a risk to both officers and civilians. Le Monde reported Sir Keir’s letter as reading: “It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month… We have no effective deterrent in the Channel.” Now, a French maritime police spokesperson says officers will start intervening at sea, with the aim of safeguarding human life. Notably, the spokesperson ruled out the use of nets to intercept boats, which Le Monde has previously reported could be used to snarl the propellers of the boats.

The hard truth is that the French WANT these migrants out of their country and so it is foolish to believe that all of a sudden the Maritime authorities will start intercepting the boats so the inhabitants can remain in France! It makes no sense whatsoever and the reality will be the dinghy invasion will continue. This is just PR and only the gullible will think it can make any difference.
The UK should take full control of what is happening and stop relying on a a weak French ally. Impose a ring of steel in the Channel and turn around every dinghy that tries to cross. None must enter British territorial waters. The safety of the illegals is not our concern, it is that of France.
