Now that the smoke has cleared and we survey the political wreckage of New York, it is clear that several factors combined to bring the Marxist-Islamist Zohran Mamdani to power. Let’s understand why he won!
In the first instance, Mamdani got 1,036,051 votes which was 181,056 ahead of Andrew Cuomo, who came in on 854,995. Coming a poor third (In a Democrat city, remember) was Curtis Sliwa (Republican) on 146,130 votes. Now had he NOT stood, the margin of victory for Mamdani would have just over 40,000 votes. Silwa (and Trump) must have known that he had no chance so why didn’t he step aside? I know Cuomo is appalling but not as completely unhinged as Mamdani. Too late now.
Now, let’s look at how the gender demographic worked out
The Blue bar is Mamdani support and as you can see , young women aged 18-29 disproportionately voted for him – 81%.
Then there is this telling chart.
Once again, native New Yorkers did not give him majority support.
So it was an unholy alliance between young liberal women and recent migrants (obviously an overlap too) that has delivered New York into the hands of the mad marxist Mamdani!
His victory has been celebrated not just in the USA but also in the UK with the likes of Labour politicians pushing out stuff like this. This is from Labour’s new Deputy Leader, Lucy Powell.
And what IS the “economic change” he has promised? Well, free stuff mostly.
He has promised universal free child care for children aged six weeks to five years; free public bus transportation, city-owned grocery stores to lower food costs, and freezing rents on rent-stabilised apartments.
He aims to support these initiatives by raising approximately $9 billion annually through increased income taxes on individuals earning over $1 million and higher corporate taxes for businesses.
It doesn’t seem to have struck him that some individuals and businesses will simply up sticks and leave!
