One of the lies commonly repeated by Labour Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is that her Government has “deported” 35,000 illegal migrants since they came to power in summer 2024.
However, that is not true. Here are the facts of the matter and they illuminate the deception that politicians practice. The governments own website says that over 26,000 of these were voluntary and 45% of those didn’t even inform the Government that they were leaving!
If 26,000 were people leaving voluntarily, that means there were 9000 that were not leaving voluntary but you shouldn’t automatically assume that they were “forced” deportations either! Remarkably, the Home Office does not routinely publish “forced deportations” data. All we know is that enforced returns—the category which includes deportations—accounted for a minority (9,115 or 26%) of the total returns that took place between 5 July 2024 and 4 July 2025.
Which brings us to the question of PAYING migrants to return to wherever they originated. You see, this is exactly what happens to those who voluntarily agree to leave. The standard grant for voluntary returnees can be up to £3,000, usually provided on a prepaid card that can be used in the country of return (not in the UK) When you consider the economic wastelands some come from, this is a huge sum. For example, giving an Afghan this sum is equivalent to THREE YEARS average wages.
And just when you thought this was bad, I invite you to look at this!

WHY are we paying him anything? I’ll tell you why, to spare Government blushes.
The Government is manipulating figures to create the impression of mass enforced deportations but this is false. Worse still, the Government is paying these illegal invaders to leave voluntarily with no guarantee that they will not use that £3000 to get themselves another dinghy ride to Britain.
