Hot Air from Kemi!

The UK has abundant energy resources all of which, properly exploited, would make us energy independent, crucial in this mad world! So you *might* have been pleased to read that…

Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch has said her party will remove all net zero requirements on oil and gas companies drilling in the North Sea if elected. The Conservative leader is to formally announce the plan to focus solely on “maximising extraction” to get “all our oil and gas out of the North Sea” in a speech in Aberdeen on Tuesday, She will claim that net zero measures mean households end up “paying the price through higher energy bills”.

She is, of course, quite right in what she says. However which Party IMPOSED Net Zero obligations on us in the first place?

Well, it was written into law by Conservative PM Theresa May in 2019. It means the UK must cut carbon emissions until it removes as much as it produces, in line with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

This is the real problem for Badenoch, her plan is to change the former plans of all her Conservative predecessors! This has little credibility. From David Cameron, through Theresa May, to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, the Conservatives were the architects of these suicidal energy policy. They boasted that they were stopping North Sea production and basked in the “green glow”

This road to Damascus conversion just cannot be taken seriously.

Now we all know that the current Labour Government is certifiably insane on this issue and has committed itself to banning any new exploration licences. Ed Miliband is systematically destroying any notion of energy independence and delights in his madness. US President Trump has expressed his incomprehension at the UK Government’s refusal to exploit our natural North Sea oil resources. He has said’

“North Sea Oil is a treasure chest for the United Kingdom. The taxes are so high, however, that it makes no sense. They have essentially told drillers and oil companies that, ‘we don’t want you’ Incentivise the drillers, fast. A vast fortune to be made for the UK, and far lower energy costs for the people.”

Wise words which Badenoch has rightly embraced. But it is too little too late.

Who in their right mind we trust the Party that legitimised Net Zero to reverse Net Zero?
