So what has Islam ever done for us?

It’s the fastest growing faith across the West. It seems reasonable for us to ask the simple question – what HAS Islam ever done for us?

Well, no one can argue that it hasn’t made a lasting impact because it demonstrably has done!

Consider the threat of terrorism. High-profile terrorist attacks by groups claiming Islamic justification, such as the 9/11 attacks, the 2015 Paris attacks, or the 2017 Manchester bombing, have all fuelled the understandable perception that Islam poses a very real security threat. Many innocent lives have been taken by Islamists and there seems no end to this. Maybe there won’t be an end. Jihad is a core motivation and whilst some want to sanitise it and make it appear spiritual, the West has experienced extreme terrorist acts as Islam grows. Refusing to draw the connection is cowardly!

Then there is the enormous strain that millions of muslims living amongst us now place on social cohesion and public resources! Services like housing, healthcare, and welfare systems are falling apart as the West struggles to cope with mass muslim migration. Our services were never designed to cope with this and it is causing great resentment from the host community,

I would suggest that freedom of speech has never been under greater threat thanks to Islam. Western pluralist values surrounding free speech plainly clash with Islamic sensitivities about depictions of the Muhammad or any criticism of Islam. Events like the horrific Charlie Hebdo massacre reminds us what happens Islam is challenged.

So, apart from increasing the terror threat, wrecking our public services and erasing free speech, Islam has been very good for the West!
