50 in, None out!

I never supported the Conservatives “Rwanda” deportation scheme because I felt is was just a contrived political distraction, something that would never actually happen. I felt it was purely designed to buy time for the Conservatives. That’s exactly how it worked out – not one illegal migrant was ever sent to Rwanda. The failed scheme cost the British taxpayer £700m.

Then Labour came to power and just a few months ago this deal was announced with France!

After weeks of rising Channel crossing figures, the UK government has agreed on a long-awaited migration deal with France. Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron announced a “one in, one out” pilot – and the UK prime minister said the “groundbreaking” scheme could start returning migrants to France within weeks. The migration agreement will allow the UK to return selected numbers of small boat arrivals to France. In exchange, the UK will admit an equal number of asylum seekers with ties to the UK (such as family), who have not previously attempted to enter the country illegally.

Now it should be obvious to all that this is a really BAD deal as the UK agrees to accept the same number of French approved migrants as migrants it sends to France, to a maximum of 50 a week. Since around 1000 arrive, Starmer was boasting he can deport 5% of those arrival but only if he accepts the same number of migrants from France. So net migration never reduces. That’s a hopeless deal.

Things just go worse! Why? Well, two attempted flights containing migrants from the UK to France have been halted by “human rights’ lawyers. Just as what happened the Rwanda plan. No one has been deported to France but it looks like a scheduled flight from France to the UK will go ahead this Saturday.

So, could it be 50 in and none out?

The hard truth is that unless the UK leaves the ECHR and repeals the Human Rights Act, no one will ever be deported against their will. Starmer has sworn his deep commitment to the ECHR so either Starmer goes or the migrants stay!
