Andy Burnham heads into his first face-to-face meeting with Donald Trump insisting they have already found a “connection” and will discover plenty of common ground. I question whether this is diplomacy or delusion, particularly after Trump’s interventions on Northern Ireland and the Falklands, and ask whether Burnham is prepared to defend British interests when the smiles stop.
