SALIL GEWALI What we encounter in textbooks often shapes our beliefs. Having grown up reading about the ‘Aryan Invasion Theory’ from my early school days, I too continued to believe that Hinduism was not native to India. As all school students in India, I carried that belief until I came across works about the ancient…
Salil Gewali My kudos to media journalists for consistentlyprojecting Arvind Kejriwal as a national asset. In the grand theater of politics, Arvind Kejriwal had now found himself caught in a web of his own making. The recent arrest of the Delhi Chief Minister, following his deliberately ignoring of multiple summons by the Enforcement Directorate,…
Salil Gewali Our youngsters will unabashedly then shake their hips, matching the titillation of Rihanna, Britney Spears, and Beyonce Knowles. The pre-marriage celebration of the wealthiest man’s son, Anant Ambani, left everyone’s jaws dropping. With every moment of the event covered around the clock by the electronic media, it was a windfall for them….
SALIL Gewali In the 21st century, if political leaders advocate for child marriage, then they should completely reject what has been brought forth by modern civilization. With such a regressive mindset, they forfeit the right to consider themselves academically enlightened and secular. They should not indulge in the luxury of modern gadgets either! One…
Salil Gewali In the calm villages of Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, India, a terrifying narrative is emerging. It’s indeed harrowing tales of numerous women enduring consistent sexual exploitation and abuse by a TMC leader, his aides and party members. What is shocking is that TMC state government, instead of standing up for the hapless…
Salil Gewali, India “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity…” – these words of Charles Dickens ring true now more than ever before. While digital…
SALIL GEWALI The time is in ceaseless progression. With the changes in seasons due to the revolution of the Earth around the sun, the first day of the year has become the most precious to all of us. As the clock strikes midnight on every January 1st, a flurry of excitement sweeps across the…
SALIL GEWALI Is NEIGRIHMS not lauded as the AIIMS of the Northeast India? Is it not a ray of hope for thenearly 4 million people in Meghalaya? The relatives of the sick, even from Assam, Manipur, Mizoram,Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh, are seen standing in the long queues in this hospital. They all expectthe healing touch…
Salil Gewali St. Anthony College of Meghalaya made a decision to make uniforms mandatory for college students from 2024 triggered commotion! The fact that one of the most prestigious institutes in the Northeast India has opted for this decision must have some “substantial reasons”. Students may as well have their own reasons to push back….
Salil Gewali Every moment can teach us a new lesson. Every stranger we cross paths with can make us more humane. A few days ago, I met a woman going from house to house selling mustard greens, locally known as “laipatta”. “Didi laipatta”, Didi laipatta” (roughly translated as — “Hello sister mustard greens) was her…
Salil GewaliWhen October is here, we, with a feeling of enthusiasm, are set to celebrate Durga Puja. For many of us, Durga Puja is more of an excuse to eat, drink and be merry. We buy yourselves new clothes, move from pandal to pandal, and forget our exercise and diets for a few heavenly days….
Salil Gewali A person who does not properly know (a+b)2 and perpendicular should not speak about Integral calculus and Matrix Algebra. Unlearned political leaders with self-centered ambitions can hardly define Sanatan Dharma (or Hinduism). Sadly, such immature public figures like Udhayanidhi Stalin, MK Stalin, D Raja, Prof. Divya Dwivedi… who deliberately denigrated Sanatan Darma (Hinduism),…
SALIL GEWALI Nothing is as condemnable as brutish sadism and cruelty. In Manipur, the base human instincts and vices have been on full display for the past three months. It is often difficult to view video clips of such barbaric atrocities and killings that went viral on WhatsApp. On May 4th, the modesty of two…
A teacher humiliated a student by making him wear a garland of shoes and slippers While education is meant to “nourish and nurture” young minds, recent events in Dangar, East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya (India) have exposed the most despicable reality that threatens to “murder the talents” of tender children. Yes, the incident of corporal…
Salil Gewali Humanity should not succumb to the insincerity and hypocrisy of the over-commercialized health profession It’s not strange these days that many people fear doctors as much as cats fear cold water. This fear is rooted in the perception that some medical practitioners mercilessly prescribe medicines and treat their patients with a monetary profit…
